The Roots Get Inducted Into the Philadelphia Music Alliance Walk of Fame Read More: The Roots Inducted Philadelphia Music Alliance Walk of Fame

The Roots have added another honor to their already illustrious resume as the group was inducted into the Philadelphia Music Alliance Walk of Fame. Their Tonight Show boss Jimmy Fallon was on hand to do the induction of his house band as they received this special award in their hometown. Black Thought, Questlove and the rest of The Roots crew are almost 30 years deep into a career that has seen the group’s profile continue to rise. The Roots’ underground days earned them critical acclaim with releases like their debut Organix, the follow-up Do You Want More?!!!??! and the much lauded Illadelph Halflife.
The Roots had a major breakthrough with the release of Things Fall Apart in 1999. The album was nominated for a Grammy in 2000 and their track “You Got Me” featuring Erykah Badu won the Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. The Roots would eventually sign with Def Jam Records and release their first album for the label, Game Theory, in 2006. In addition to the work on their own, The Roots have also released collaboration albums with singers John Legend and Elvis Costello. But the biggest move for the Roots came in 2009 when the became the house band for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. When Fallon became host of The Tonight Show, The Roots also joined him as the house band of the iconic program. In addition to their ongoing Tonight Show duties, The Roots are now producing a soundtrack for the Broadway musical Hamilton. The show is a hip-hop musical about the life of Alexander Hamlton.
