Delta State University shooting: Mississippi campus on lock down as rampaging gunman shoots one dead
The gunman remains on the loose at Delta State University after the shooting just a couple of hours ago.
Police are looking for 45-year-old Shannon Lamb in connection with the shooting.
According to investigators, Lamb called police at 10.20am reporting that a woman was shot to death at her home in Gautier, Mississippi.
Lamb also teaches at Delta State University and finished his doctorate in July this year.
Police do not yet know if the two shootings are connected.
Students and staff have been warned to stay inside and keep away from windows.
One woman who is hiding inside one of the buildings on campus posted a clip on Instagram of the scene and said the shooting happened in the building next to the one she is in.
Others inside the building have been making barricades using tables and chairs inside classrooms to block the doors.
Large numbers of armed police have been deployed to the campus and are going from one building to the next in the hunt for the gunman.
Students have been seen being escorted out of buildings walking in lines with their arms raised above their heads.
The campus official Twitter feed said at around 4.45pm GMT that the gunman had been spotted on campus.
